Process
How to apply the Swallowable Capsule Ellipse Gastric Balloon?
Administering the swallowable capsule gastric balloon is a simple procedure that does not require anesthesia or endoscopy, and the patient does not need to be hospitalized. The procedure involves the patient swallowing a capsule-sized balloon while sitting upright and conscious, with no pain involved. The location of the balloon is confirmed using an x-ray after the patient drinks 2-3 glasses of water and mineral soda. The balloon is then inflated with a special liquid of approximately 550 cc, and another x-ray is taken to confirm its location. The procedure is completed once the balloon is properly positioned. After the procedure, the patient is contacted by a dietitian and discharged once a nutrition program is determined.
After Surgery
Is it necessary to use medication before and after the Swallowable Gastric Balloon?
Before the swallowable gastric balloon procedure, it is recommended to start taking stomach acid reducing medications like lansaprazole or pantaprazole one week prior and continue for 4 months. Additionally, to prevent nausea after the procedure, EMEND tablets should be taken one day before, on the morning of the procedure, and one day after the procedure. It’s important to follow the specific instructions and guidance provided by the healthcare provider.
